Least Privilege Explained
Those working in every single industry across the world must understand what least privilege is and how it pertains to their work schedule and job duties that must be met. So, what is least privilege? In its most simple form, least privilege is the lowest amount of access needed for a person to perform their job duties on a specific program or piece of software on their work computer. The most commonly used example is that of a backup user. A backup user will not be able to install software on a computer but instead only be able to run backup related programs when using a computer with their user access.
One way companies make sure that their computers, their programs, and their software are protected from access by unauthorized users is to use Password Protection Software. Password protection software is software that allows you to password protect programs and other pieces of software on a computer. You can setup a different login name and password for each program on the computer or use the same login name and password for each program if you so please. When the password protection software is running, it will keep a log of all the login names and passwords used on each computer in a secured database. The database can be accessed by management, the information technology department, and anyone with admin rights in case they need to find passwords for an emergency. (more…)
